Continuation of Hampi Temples:

Yantrodharaka Hanuman Temple:

This Hanuman temple is located on the top of the hill on the banks of the river Tungabhadra. As I said in my earlier post, on this hill itself Lord Rama met Lord Hanuman for the first time. It's exactly 2kms from Virupaksha temple

Lord Hanuman idol is installed by Sri Vyasarajaru (Madhwa Saint), the Rajaguru of Vijayanagara Kingdom.

History of Yantrodharaka Hanuman Temple:

  • Once Sri Vyasarajaru took a holy bath in the Tungabhadra river and sat at one place and started prayers to Lord Hanuman, before praying he took charcoal and drawn outline of Hanuman.
  • After his prayer, the outline got vanished and the real monkey came from that place and went away.
  • The second day also the same thing happened and this continued for 12 days.
  • Sri Vyasarajaru didn't understand what's happening, then he closed his eyes and did Dyanam (meditation), later he got to know that this is the place where exactly Lord Rama met Lord Hanuman for the first time. (Such a divine and powerful place)
  • Then Sri Vyasarajaru decided to install the Lord Hanuman idol here, this time he drew a yantra with a Hanuman sketch in the middle and 12 monkeys around this Yantra with few Bejakshari words.
  • After the completion of the sketch, Sri Vyasarajaru composed a famous Mantra (Chant) called Yatrodharaka Hanuma Stotram.
  • After his chanting got completed Lord Hanuman himself appeared in this Sketch and till today giving darshan to all.
